Guccifer 2.0, the self-proclaimed hacker of the Democratic National Committee—who U.S. intel officials say is actually a Russian operative—suddenly re-emerged Thursday to proclaim that Washington is wrong about him. “The U.S. intelligence agencies have published several reports of late claiming I have ties with Russia,” Guccifer wrote on the same website on which he or she posted internal documents from the DNC and other Democratic Party groups. “I’d like to make it clear enough that these accusations are unfounded. I have totally no relation to the Russian government.” Guccifer claims to have passed documents to WikiLeaks; the U.S. government said in a report last week this persona is a cover to hide Russian responsibility for election hacking. “The technical evidence contained in the reports doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. This is a crude fake.”
