An explosion at an out-of-production oil and gas drilling platform Thursday about 12 miles off the coast of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico killed one person and injured three others, one of them seriously, the platform's operator and U.S. officials said. Fieldwood Energy, a Houston offshore oil and gas operator, confirmed the explosion late Thursday but said it had few details. It said the incident had been "fully contained," that all employees had been accounted for and that there was no spill or other environmental impact.
