Marriage equality is well on its way to becoming law in Hawaii. The state’s House of Representatives approved a bill legalizing same-sex marriage on Friday night. The bill will now move back to the Senate, which will consider any amendments the House proposed. Most of the debate surrounding the bill in the House involved amendments that would make exemptions for churches and other religious organizations that want nothing to do with gay marriage. The Senate passed a similar gay marriage bill last month by a vote of 20 to 4 and Gov. Neil Abercrombie has said he will sign it.
