Julio Acevedo, the man suspected of killing a young Brooklyn couple and their baby in a hit-and-run, surrendered to police in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. Earlier Wednesday, a goodwill pre-Passover event between the NYPD and New York’s Jewish community turned combative when a rabbi attacked Police Commissioner Ray Kelly over the hit-and-run earlier this week, which killed the couple and their unborn son. Rabbi David Niederman, the head of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg, demanded to know why Acevedo wasn’t stripped of his driver’s license after being arrested on a DWI charge weeks before the fatal accident. Kelly said in a press conference that Acevedo’s release on bail was standard practice. The NYPD does not decide who is released on bail or whose licenses are revoked.
