The death toll from Hurricane Irma in the U.S. has doubled, reaching 22 following its destructive path through the Caribbean. Outside the U.S., at least 38 people were reported killed by the storm. 2017 marks the first year on record that the continental U.S. has been slammed by two Category 4 hurricane landfalls. More than 70 people were killed by Hurricane Harvey just days before Irma hit.
