In the process of losing their profits and bonuses, Wall Street bankers have lost something even more important: public respect. Now, with even the President reprimanding them (he called their bonuses “shameful”), many in investment banking feel like pariahs, reports The New York Times. They avoid mentioning their jobs at gatherings and they're the brunt of jokes when they go home for the holidays. "I'd almost rather say I'm a pornographer," one retired Wall Street executive said. Given the constant layoffs and populist trash-talking, the long hours and weekends at the office don't seem worth the trouble. Some former employees on Wall Street that were fired have begun to work for non-profits--for much less money--in an effort to redeem their reputations.
