Desperate times call for desperate measures: The EPA met with Avatar director James Cameron on Tuesday to see if he had ideas to stop the oil spill; the Associated Press says Cameron “is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies,” presumably from his experience making Titanic. Meanwhile, workers at Florida’s Pensacola beach are setting up booms in expectation that the oil spill—currently nine miles off shore—could reach land as soon as Wednesday. Florida will be the fourth state hit by oil, as barrier islands in Alabama and Mississippi, plus 125 miles of coast in Louisiana have been impacted.
