After declaring its first-ever state of nuclear emergency following the failure of two nuclear power plants due to the violent earthquake and 23-foot tsunami wreaking havoc on Japan, authorities say they will release radioactive vapor to ease pressure at one of the two plants where the nuclear reactor cooling system failed. According to Japan’s nuclear safety agency, pressure inside one of six boiling water reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi plant had risen to 1.5 times above the normal level, and the radioactive vapor that will be released will not affect human health or the environment.
