Jesmyn Ward has won the National Book Award for fiction for her post–Hurricane Katrina novel Salvage the Bones. Ward was joined by fellow winners Stephen Greenblatt, whose The Swerve was awarded best nonfiction, and poet Nikki Finney at the award ceremony hosted by John Lithgow at the Wall Street restaurant Cipriani Wednesday evening. A prize of $10,000 will go to each winner.
