Charges against Sister Megan Rice, an 86-year-old nun, and two fellow activists were overturned on Friday. In 2012, the three broke into the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and defaced a uranium storage bunker with bible passages referring to the end of war. The facility holds a large portion of the country’s uranium supply, which is used to manufacture bombs. A 2-1 opinion by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that they were not a threat to national security. Rice is currently serving a three-year sentence, a time her attorney hopes to be reduced with the new ruling.
