Judge Roger Vinson may have slapped the Obama administration down with his ruling that health-care reform is unconstitutional, but he’s giving them a chance to respond. Vinson issued a stay of his ruling on Thursday, giving the Department of Justice seven days to appeal his January decision to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Vinson’s decision is only one of several handed down in suits against the reform law, but his ruling was the most sweeping so far. The law’s constitutionality is widely expected to be resolved only when it reaches the Supreme Court.
