An explosion ripped open a supermarket in Kabul, Afghanistan killing eight people and ending a period of relative calm that had settled over the Afghan capital the past several months. At least three of those killed were foreigners, and the attack was believed to be targeted at the supermarket because it was popular with foreign diplomats and journalists. Witnesses heard shots fired and then an explosion, though it was unclear if the attack was a suicide bombing. Those on the scene also reported that many Westerners were outside after the bombing.
