Katie Couric signed off the CBS Evening News for the final time Thursday night, ending the broadcast with a five-minute retrospective of her five years at the anchor desk. Couric thanked her staff and those who hired her, saying it has been a “privilege and honor” to deliver the news broadcast. “Thank you so much for coming on this extraordinary journey with me,” Couric said. The greatest hits included her famous interview with Sarah Palin, as well as interviews with presidents and celebrities and ran right up to the killing of Osama bin Laden. Despite scoring well with critics, Couric’s five-year run never managed to gain enough viewers to satisfy the network or lift the program out of third place in the ratings.
