Amazon announced Wednesday that it will launch library lending for Kindle books later this year. The feature will be available for Kindle and Kindle apps. Users will be able to check out Kindle books from the local library and read them on any Kindle device. If a user checks out the same Kindle book again, their annotations will be preserved, but if another person checks the book out, the annotations will not be in place. Amazon is working with OverDrive, the digital book distributor, on the service, but offered no specific release date.
