Celebs should take note. When the late-night TV host found himself in a scandal, he got in front of his problem. Letterman opened up about a $2 million extortion plot against him, wherein he received a package with the note, “I know that you do some terrible, terrible things—and I can prove you do these terrible things.” Those terrible things included having affairs with several of his female staffers. In true Letterman fashion, his apology was funny. It was also heartfelt. “My wife, Regina... has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it’s your responsibility, you try to fix it. Let me tell you folks, I’ve got my work cut out for me,” he said.
