As the dust settled on the protests that shook Kyrgyzstan and deposed the president, 15 of the 78 people who died during the violent uprising were laid to rest Saturday outside the capital Bishkek. On the nation’s second day of national mourning, it seemed that the protests had died down. But it was not enough to instill confidence in the U.S. military, which operates a base there, and has decided to indefinitely suspend all troop flights in and out of it. The base is a key element of American operations in nearby Afghanistan, with 50,000 coalition troops passing through there last month alone. Russia also operates a base in Kyrgyzstan and the presence of both nations there has come under intense scrutiny.
