The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards opened with a generation-spanning collaboration between Lady Gaga and Elton John featuring remixed versions of both artists' high-profile songs at dueling pianos and bedazzled eye wear. After the "Pokerface" singer appeared in an emerald crystallized bodysuit singing a slowed version of her card-themed song, a ringmaster announced, "Everyone's going goo goo for Gaga." Soon thereafter, Gaga reappeared at a piano across from Sir Elton John, both of whom had smeared make-up on their faces. The two outrageous singers did a mash-up of her "Speechless" and his "Your Song" as mannequin arms eerily reached from the musical instrument. Beyoncé took home the first award of the night, for Best Song of the Year, but was unable to accept it because she was backstage preparing for her performance. Taylor Swift, meanwhile, won the Grammy for Best Country Album – without incident, and The Kings of Leon took home record of the year. Host Stephen Colbert also racked up an award for best comedy album. Swift later took the stage accompanied by Stevie Nicks.
