The first Latino responses to Obama’s new nondeportation policy are in, and it’s good news for the president. The political-research organization, Latino Decisions, reports that 49 percent of Hispanic voters are more enthusiastic about Obama’s reelection since he announced his plan to keep more undocumented young immigrants from being deported. This is a huge boon for Obama, as his record of having deported 1.2 million immigrants had become a cause for concern for some Hispanic voters. Just 14 percent of Latinos surveyed said they were actually turned off by the president’s move. Mitt Romney has yet to take an official stance on his opponent’s executive step toward enacting the DREAM Act altogether. Still, according to the Latino Decisions survey, he has already dug himself a hole in the eyes of some Hispanic voters with his past immigration comments.
