For all the Bernie Madoff aficionados out there: While the Ponzi schemer serves a 150-year prison sentence, 400 items Madoff bought with his stolen billions are heading to a Manhattan hotel to be auctioned off Saturday. The U.S. Marshall Service will oversee the auction. The spread includes a 10.5-carat engagement ring, a Steinway & Sons grand piano, a pair of velveteen slippers embroidered with Madoff’s initials, and enough shoes to fill a walk-in closet. Proceeds from the auction will go to the victims he swindled, though they’ll only repay a fraction of the estimated $18 billion to $65 billion that he stole.
