Muzzammil Hassan, a former upstate New York TV executive, has been sentenced to 25 years to life for beheading his wife. The maximum sentence was passed down in Erie County court in Buffalo on Wednesday morning. Hassan had tried to convince jurors that his late wife, Aasiya Hassan, had abused him and he feared for his own life, but the jury remained steadfast, convicting him of second-degree murder in the 2009 death of Aasiya. Prosecutors claimed Hassan beheaded his wife after she filed for divorce. Her decapitated body was found at the offices of Bridges TV—a Muslim-oriented television network dedicated to countering negative media images of Muslims post-9/11, where Muzzammil Hassan served as CEO and Aasiya Hassan was general manager.
