A firm run by Paul Manafort, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign chairman, orchestrated a covert lobbying operation in Washington D.C. for Ukraine’s ruling political party, according to new emails acquired by the Associated Press. Manafort and his deputy, Rick Gates, who also works on the Trump campaign, did not disclose their work as foreign agents which is required by federal law. They lobbied to help sway American public opinion in favor of the country’s pro-Russian government. Both have previously denied they were doing work that would have required them to register as foreign agents.
