The 14th-seeded Marin Cilic slapped around Kei Nishikori to win his first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open on Monday. Cilic, from Croatia, beat Nishikori, of Japan, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. It was also Nishikori's first major final. Cilic's win came after routing five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer in straight sets.
