A medically retired combat veteran who appeared in a controversial video abusing the corpse of a Taliban insurgent was found dead at his home on Wednesday night. Twenty-eight-year-old Marine Cpl. Robert Richards, who sustained shrapnel wounds to his legs, arms, groin, and throat while in foot patrol in Afghanistan in 2010, found himself at the center of an international scandal when the video leaked in January 2012 and went viral. His lawyer, Guy Womack, said his death does not appear to be a suicide. Autopsy and toxicology tests are being conducted. Richards previously talked about struggling with post-traumatic stress and night terrors, once admitting he fired a gun in a hotel while his wife was present, after being caught off-guard by replica cannons fired during a celebration.
