A massive fire has broken out again at a chemical plant owned by Arkema Inc. in Crosby, Texas. It was reportedly flooded by Hurricane Harvey earlier this week. The plant lost power and the ability to refrigerate leading to organic peroxides becoming unstable and breaking down in their containers after being exposed to outdoor heat. "We continue to work closely with public officials to manage the implications of this situation, and have communicated with the public the potential for product to explode and cause an intense fire," Arkema said. "Organic peroxides are extremely flammable and, as agreed with public officials, the best course of action is to let the fire burn itself out." On Thursday, a fire already ignited at the facility leading to the launch of an investigation by the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board.
