More violence is gripping Mexico’s southwestern state of Guerrero, where a female politician’s body was found decapitated Wednesday. Aide Nava, a 42-year-old running for mayor, was found on the side of a road near the state capital city of Chilpancingo, after she was reportedly kidnapped Tuesday. Authorities said a note discovered near her body threatened to murder other politicians who did not “fall into line,” and was signed by the criminal gang Los Rojos. Last year in Guerrero, 43 student-teachers were allegedly kidnapped by corrupt police and handed over to a criminal gang to be killed, sparking an international outcry over criminal violence. More than 100,000 people have died in connection to Mexico’s drug cartels over the last eight years.
