Welcome to the twilight zone: After spending much of the campaign feuding over Iraq, Senator John McCain said he supports President Obama’s plan to withdraw a majority of combat troops from Iraq by August 2010. According to The New York Times, McCain told Obama he thought his plan “thoughtful” and “well prepared” and his spokeswoman said he is “highly supportive of the plan.” Nancy Pelosi, meanwhile, criticized the President’s plan on MSNBC, saying she thought the as-many-as 50,000 residual troops remaining in Iraq to train security forces and protect U.S. interests were too many. Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer similarly questioned the number.
