New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on Thursday named five Yeshiva schools that defied the city’s mandate against allowing unvaccinated students to attend classes, Bklyner reports. The five Yeshivas include Bnos Square of Williamsburg, two Bnos Chayil locations, Tiferes Bnos, and Simche Kinder. Three of the five schools reportedly had children attend the school while they were sick with measles and contagious. The city’s Department of Education banned unvaccinated kids from attending schools in ultra-Orthodox communities late last year. While many schools complied, a single unvaccinated student at Yeshiva Kehilath Yakov infected 21 others. All told, the school has been connected to 42 cases and contributed to the virus’ spread. The website reports there have been 158 cases of measles in Brooklyn alone. Eleven individuals have reportedly been hospitalized, and one child is in the intensive care unit.
