Mexico lashed out at President Donald Trump’s White House on Wednesday over recently announced immigration guidelines, just hours before U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was due to arrive to meet with Mexican officials. Tillerson and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly promised to “walk through” Mexican officials on Trump’s latest immigration directives, which have already been met with anger in Mexico. Under the guidelines, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. authorities would deport undocumented immigrants to Mexico if they entered from there—regardless of whether they are Mexican citizens. Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said his country would not accept the policy. “I want to say clearly and emphatically that the government of Mexico and the Mexican people do not have to accept provisions that one government unilaterally wants to impose on the other,” he said Wednesday at Mexico’s Foreign Ministry, according to Reuters. Other Mexican officials shared Videgaray’s views on the controversial new guidelines, with senators urging Mexican President Pena Nieto to refuse to meet with Tillerson and Kelly.
