The Republican Party has to go to war with the army it has: Michael Steele came out in strong support of Delaware Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell on Wednesday. “I look forward to electing Christine the next senator from the state of Delaware,” Steele said. “We’re looking forward to helping.” He didn’t specify what form the help would take exactly. Meanwhile, the NRSC has come out with a strong statement in support of O’Donnell after reports on Tuesday night that it would not fund her campaign. “Let there be no mistake: The National Republican Senatorial Committee—and I personally as the committee’s chairman—strongly stand by all of our Republican nominees, including Christine O’Donnell in Delaware,” said chairman, Senator John Cornyn. “I reached out to Christine this morning, and as I have conveyed to all of our nominees, I offered her my personal congratulations and let her know that she has our support. This support includes a check for $42,000—the maximum allowable donation that we have provided to all of our nominees—which the NRSC will send to her campaign today.”
