Is Michelle Obama the Dems’ secret weapon? We’ll know soon, as the first lady has just been unleashed on the campaign trail, hoping to bring new energy to flagging Democratic campaigns before the midterm elections. On Wednesday, she spoke in Milwaukee for Senator Russell Feingold, struggling against Republican businessman Ron Johnson, and she’s headed to Chicago to help Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulis and three House candidates. Michelle is considered the most popular face of the Obama administration, and she’s off-limits from Republican attacks. Nor did she go after Republicans in her speech for Feingold, partly because she didn’t want to risk losing bipartisan support for her own efforts to fight childhood obesity and help military families. Instead, she made a personal appeal for the president’s agenda, saying about health care reform, “Barack knows the heartbreak and frustration that our health insurance system has caused far too many families.”
