Governor Mark Dayton joined protesters on Thursday morning, hours after hundreds of people camped out outside of his home in St. Paul, with crime-scene tape and Black Lives Matter posters. "I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Philando Castile," Dayton said in a statement, following Castile's death. "Our state today grieves with them. This morning, I spoke by phone with White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough to request that the U.S. Department of Justice begin an immediate independent federal investigation into this matter." At various points during the night, there was even a campfire in the crowd, which was frequently shouting "No Justice! No Sleep!"
