Mueller Is Handing Rick Gates Case Over to D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office
TYING UP LOOSE ENDS
The case of former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates will be handed off to the D.C. United States Attorney’s Office, special counsel Robert Mueller’s office said Saturday. Gates was indicted in October 2017 as part of Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election alongside his business associate and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. His case is being heard by Judge Amy Berman Jackson but his sentencing has been put off for more than a year as he cooperates in several other investigations. Mueller handed in his long-anticipated report on Russian interference in the 2016 election to the Justice Department on Friday. His office is not recommending any new indictments. The D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office is already involved in several of the other ongoing criminal cases brought by Mueller, including against Roger Stone.
