Sotheby’s auction house announced Tuesday that one of four versions of Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream will be sold this spring in New York—and it’s expected to go for as much as $80 million or more. The 1895 painting features a man holding his head amidst a streaked, blood-red sky. This version is the only one of the painting still in private hands. It is being sold by Norwegian businessman Petter Olsen, whose father was a friend and patron of Munch’s. Olsen said the proceeds will go toward the establishment of a new museum, art center, and hotel in Hvitsten, Norway, where Olsen’s father and Munch were neighbors.
