Mitt Romney recently received one of the largest 2012 presidential campaign contributions yet, but the source of the money is dubious. W Spann LLC mysteriously dissolved six weeks after funneling $1 million to Restore Our Future, a political-action committee backing Romney’s presidential bid. There are few clues as to who was behind the donation except for the founder of the now-defunct company, Boston-based Lawyer Cameron Casey. If Casey formed W Spann LLC primarily to raise money for the pro-Romney group, “there is a real issue of it being just a subterfuge” that could develop into a “serious” legal issue, according to the Federal Election Commission's former general counsel. He added that the donation is a “road map for how people can hide their identities” while making campaign contributions.
