NATO Mulls Perma-Troops in East Europe

It's mediation with guns. Because increased tensions between Russia and Ukraine might need long-term monitoring, NATO says it is considering placing permanent troops in Eastern Europe. There are currently short-term rotations in Eastern Europe that are set to depart by the year's end. The alliance's top commander told a news conference that in the months leading up to a September summit, the leaders will consider NATO's presence in Eastern Europe. "We need to look at our responsiveness, our readiness, and then our positioning of forces to be able to address this new paradigm that we have seen demonstrated in Crimea and now on the eastern border of Ukraine," U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove said.
