Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not buying Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' sympathetic message about the Holocaust. Abbas released a statement declaring the Holocaust as a “heinous” crime and extending his condolences to “families of the victims and the innocent people who were killed by the Nazis including the Jews and others." However, Netanyahu was not soothed by the words, pointing out that Abbas had recently joined forces with Islamic militant group Hamas, “which denies the Holocaust.” Instead, Netanyahu said that he “hope[s] [Abbas] will escape this covenant and return to the path of real peace.”
