Where does Saturn get its rings? There's a new theory: A large moon was pulled slowly into the planet, leaving a trail of ice debris behind. Scientists had previously considered the theory that some of Saturn’s moons had smashed into each other, creating the rings, but the rings are almost all ice, and a moon collision would have created more rocks. But according to an article published in Nature, a large moon being pulled into Saturn would have stripped ice from the moon, creating the rings, and helps explain the ice-rich inner moons.
