Is it art, or is it porn? Several new magazines are capitalizing on the fine line between the two. There’s Paradis magazine, which calls itself a “magazine for the contemporary man,” filled with ultra-saturated (and therefore artsy) nude photographs by Juergen Teller. Then there’s the much smuttier Jacques, which features 1970s-era spread featuring, of course, hot pants—and little else. Butt magazine, on the other hand, has “changed the face of gay porn,” with its plethora of man parts, and the super smutty S magazine, offers a Bardot-meets-bondage aesthetic. The king these art mags is, perhaps, Purple, which reads like one big orgy for photographer and founder Olivier Zahm. But it’s all, of course, for art’s sake.
