The New Museum is highlighting the work and range of field of Brazilian conceptual artist Rivane Neuenschwander in a show called A Day Like Any Other. Neuenschwander mixes and morphs painting, photography, film, sculpture, installations, and audience interactive pieces. She has several works highlighting contemporary themes; a set of drawings which morph, under rain, into continental maps, an installation on paranoia and privacy, and videos featuring ants and beetles as examples of industriousness and mirroring the manic organizational systems of humans. Three works involve active audience involvement: I Wish Your Wish has wish ribbons for visitors to wrap around their wrists and replace with a wish of their own; Walking in Circles highlights traffic patterns using bits of adhesive on the floor, and; First Love has a police sketch artist sit with visitors and listen as they describe their first loves. The police artist sketches the person and the portraits of all these first loves hang on the wall for the duration of the exhibit.
