Penn State has a new football coach after 43 years. Tom Bradley took over Thursday for Joe Paterno, who was fired Wednesday for his role in an alleged cover-up of sex abuse by an assistant coach. Bradley said he had “mixed emotions” about taking over for the coach with the most wins in history, and he paid homage to his predecessor, saying Paterno “has meant more to me than my own father.” Bradley’s press conference came only hours after thousands of Penn State students rioted Wednesday night in anger over Paterno’s exit. The mob flipped over a news van and threw rocks, and police responded with riot gear and tear gas.
