Still limping slightly from a January hip injury that threatened to keep him out of baseball and football forever, Bo Jackson rose last week through the ranks of Chicago White Sox farm teams as part of his minor-league rehabilitation program. If he gets a clean bill of health this week, Jackson could join the White Sox Sept. 1 when the majors expand their rosters. But at a $700,000 base salary and $10,000 per game, the most Jackson will earn this year from the club is just over $1 million-compared with his pre-injury $3 million with the Royals, says a Sox spokesman.

Jackson played his fourth game with the Class AA Birmingham Barons last week in Alabama after two games with Sarasota, Fla.'s Class A team. He finished his stint with six hits in 19 at-bats, a strong .316 average. Though it's not clear yet whether he'll fully recover, the Sox's box office certainly stands to.
