Travel: Enjoy The Scenery

Generic hotels make for generic memories. For a twist, choose a spot like Vermont's Fairlee Motel and Drive-In Theater ($60 to $70; 802-333-9192), where guests can watch movies right out their windows, with a speaker box mounted on their wall. Lake Geneva, Wis.'s End of the Line Vacation Station ($69 to $149; 262-763-5596) lets hobo wanna-bes hop aboard renovated cabooses (or is it "cabeese"?) equipped with queen-size beds, bathrooms and color TVs. If you prefer surf to turf, Alaska's Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures ($130 to $160; 907-747-6375) features two houses floating in a tranquil bay. Or live among the leaves at Cedar Creek Treehouse in Ashford, Wash. ($250 for two; 360-569-2991), where you'll sleep 50 feet off the ground in a log cabin with awesome views of Mount Rainier. Just make sure you don't wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
