Movies: Bryan Singer
He arrived at age 29 with "The Usual Suspects." "X-Men" earned him superhero status. Now he's teamed up with Tom Cruise for the Nazi thriller "Valkyrie." His picks:
1 "Jaws." Spielberg shows the chaos and unknown of the set can be crafted into something amazing. It created the summer blockbuster.
2 "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." With all its sci-fi spectacle, at its heart, it's just the story of an artist finally realizing his vision.
3 "Crimes and Misdemeanors." Woody Allen's most chilling film about the darkest potential in all of us … And yet very funny.
4 "The King of Comedy." Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro's best collaboration. It's like "Taxi Driver" turned inside out.
5 "2001: A Space Odyssey." For its sheer audacity in every frame. Also, it looks amazing on Blu-ray.
A MAJOR MOVIE YOU HAVEN ' T SEEN: Pier Paolo Pasolini's "Salò." Never been in the right mood.
A MAJOR MOVIE YOU REVISITED WITH DISAPPOINTMENT: "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." For its time, it was amazing, but it's dated and can't hold up to its successor, "Pinocchio."
