Mob Movies Through the Years
It's not hard to understand Hollywood's love affair with Mafia mythology. The underworld offers all the trappings of a blockbuster movie: dangerous men with an insatiable appetite for power cavorting with glamorous girls, on the wrong side of the law.
The 1972 masterpiece by Francis Ford Coppola was based on the novel by Mario Puzo and showcases some of America’s finest actors, including Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. It took home the Oscar for best picture and is considered one of the top films of the 20th century. The Godfather has been imitated ad nauseam, but never equaled. Even Coppola’s two sequels fail to live up to the glory of the original.
