Alter told Letterman he would give the president a B-plus so far—he "put a lot of points on the board" legislatively but failed to communicate effectively with the American people. The lack of communication has contributed to Obama's slumping poll numbers, Alter said, but he believes the administration could achieve a Reagan-style rebound.
