The first of an additional 21,500 U.S. troops deployed to Baghdad and the troubled Anbar province have begun to arrive since President Bush announced his ‘surge’ in January 2007. News reports in March indicated that the actual number of new troops will be closer to 30,000--once support units are added to the count.
