The Suitcase Project memorializes former inmates of Willard Psychiatric Center in upstate New York. In the state-run institution's 126-year span, 50,000 patients spent time behind its walls -- and nearly half of those men and women died there. The luggage of former inmates was found in the attic of an abandoned building after the center closed in 1995. There were hundreds of suitcases. But the story each one told was unique.
