New Bodies, New Lives
For transgender Americans, making the transition from one gender to another is a difficult, although liberating, experience that requires them to go through an entire overhaul of their lives. But despite the personal nature of the decision, every transgender person must publicly announce their transformation to family, friends and employers who may not be sympathetic to their plight. In an effort to help the local transgender community, the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center held a Transgender Job Fair in May 2007 to help attendees develop the skills and confidence they need to find satisfying jobs with employers that have cultures and policies which are friendly to transgender people. Here are some of the fair's attendees.
