Burma deaths surge as aid is blocked
The cyclone that ripped through Burma on May 2 killed thousands, but the stillness and silence that followed could, in the end, wreak even more havoc in the Southeast Asian country. The nation's military rulers have stalled international relief workers for two weeks, only agreeing on May 23 to allow outside help to enter. Meanwhile, an estimated 78,000 people are dead, with anther 56,000 missing, in the storm's aftermath. Relief organizations estimate that 1.5 million are in need of food and water and that survivors face a public health catastrophe. A look at the devastation--and desperation.
