Having won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, Big Brown goes for the Triple Crown this Saturday. He’s a strong, fast horse—but leading up to the Belmont he had hoof trouble that worried the many fans who are hoping to see some history. It’s been three decades since a horse took the Triple Crown. Here’s a look at the champions that raced their way to equine immortality, and some of the others that missed it by a nose.
